So, what is an identity ? There are many definitions and interpretations of this word. Many men, many mind. But personally I think that first of all it is something that differs you from other people. Something that makes you unique. Our Russian team and the one from Argentina told each other different opinion about this issue. And I agree with Anita that it goes far beyond our names. It doesn’t depend on nationality, or skin colour, but it makes your country, for example, to be known and famous for stereotypes. Many people all over the world associate Russia with vodka or cold weather and bears, But one cannot be sure without visiting it. And then , after visiting this or that country people would break some stereotypes which gradually appeared to be just prejudices…
So, what is an identity? First of all you can ask "who are you?" and everything that connected with you will identify you. Your hobbies, cloths, food, interests, job, wishes and so on. And after that we can broaden this notion to identity of a whole country. I think that it usually includes some appearance features, behaviour, customs and traditions that are used in a particular country. But I think that people often mix this word with the word stereotype. They are different. because stereotypes are not always true and objective)
AMERICAN INFLUENCE.
Nowadys our country"s become so western. We have american influence on every levels of our live. We watch american movie, some of us even don"t watch russian ones at all. Listen to their music, frankly speaking there are no any russian song in my mobile phone. Even our singers are now trying to sing in English ((( We eat fastfood, different hot-dogs, cheeseburgers, hamburgers and we all at least once eat at McDonald"s. Our everyday clots are jeans and t-shirts. We even selebrate their fests!! We are now on the stage of americanisation. And I can't say that I don't like it. I think America is one of the greatest countries and there are so many things that americans really do much better than we do. and sometimes they set an example for us.
ARGENTINIAN STEREOTYPES
As fo me I "ve never been to Argentina, unfortunately. But I know this contry by the name of Diego Maradonna!! There is a stereotype about one of the strongest football teams in the world. Also I can say that I "ve always been sure that South America is famous for its PASSION! I mean passionate feelings, emotions, gestures, everything!! Their megapassionate dances... mmm I admire!)
RUSSIAN STEREOTYPES
Oooooooh, Ithink first of all when foreigners talk about Russia, they think about VODKA )_ Vodka is drunk in many countries! Than I think they imagine that in Russia we always wear sheepskincoat and felt boots :)) And certainlly they think that bears walk just along the streets. Another point that makes me feel pride is the fact that our country is famous for its best sportsmen in figure skating!! Yagudin, Pluschenko, Rodnina, Sluckaya...they are all multiple champions of Russia, Europe and World!!
But still, foreigners don"t know that in Russia we have not only vodka and bears, but many other wondering and fascinating thing!!!!
My final thoughts.
